Some Points to Remember

We hope that you are ready to enjoy your vacation! We will make every effort to make your trip pleasant and memorable. On this page you will find information that may help you throughout your stay at Casa Dos Amigos or Villas del Rio, including some basic house rules. We hope of course that you will treat this home with the same respect and care that you would treat your own home. In particular:

• Please no smoking under the palapas or in the bedrooms.

• Please do not sit on the couches, chairs and beds with wet suits or towels.

• Please do not take household items other than beach towels to the beach.

• Please DO NOT use any glassware near or in the pool! If a glass breaks and goes into the pool we will have to charge you for the service of draining and refilling the pool.

• Please do not bring any local stray dogs or cats back to the house – no matter how cute they are!

• Please use A/C consciously and remember to turn it OFF when you leave the room for any length of time. It only takes a few minutes to cool off the room if you keep the doors and windows closed. Electricity is extremely expensive in Mexico.

• Please remember to turn off lights and fans, when you leave the house.

• Please don't throw toilet paper in the toilet. A waste basket is provided next to each toilet. The drainage systems are not equipped for paper products.

Check-in is at 3pm. Check-out is at 11am.

Jewel is the manager of this property. Jewel lives nearby and she will assist your from check-in to check-out. You are in very good hands! You can find Jewel’s contact info in the guest info binder in the house.

Safety

Although Sayulita is generally very safe, unfortunately petty theft does happen, so be smart and lock up your valuables. If you are smart about your belongings, the house and your surroundings, you will be unaffected.

Please make sure to lock the doors when you go out, even it's it's just for a minute or around the corner.

All units are equiped with a safe. Operation of the safe is straightforward and will be demonstrated when you check in.

Water

The house has a large water tank (cisterna) operated by a pump. If for some reason there is no water, please call us immediately.

• Drinking water: While water standards have improved in Mexico, it is not advised to drink tap water. Garafones of water are available for drinking.

• Ice at restaurants is made with clean water, don´t fret. We ask that you please use the water from the garafones when making ice, not tap water.

• To wash veggies and fruit, we recommend that you soak them with a few drops of the sanitizer (microdyne) that is by the sink.

Housekeeping

• Vicky is the housekeeper. She's been doing the housekeeping for Dos Amigos for many years. She is very trustworthy, but speaks no English. Generally she will come every day except on Sunday.

• It is customary to tip the housekeeper at the end of your stay in the amount of 5 USD per day that she comes. Please give it to her in person and say, "Su propina, muchas gracias!". It can also be left in the little wooden box in the bedroom.

Bugs

Please be aware that we do have scorpions in Sayulita. It is always a good idea to shake out your shoes, clothes, towels, etc. If you should get stung there is not much in the way of medical treatment for this type of sting, ice and some pain medicine are the best treatment. However, if you have a severe reaction it is best seek the supervision of a medical professional.

Cooking

• In town there are a couple vegetable stands, fish markets and meat stores where you can buy fresh goodies to prepare at the house.

• We recommend that you purchase anti-bacteria drops to soak your vegetables and fruits in before eating. (Anything that you are not peeling or cooking, like lettuce, tomatoes, cilantro,) etc. generally takes 8-12 drops per half gallon or so of tap water for ten minutes. There is usually some provided, so look under the kitchen sink or next to the sink. If you find we have run out you can purchase this at any of the small grocery stores in town.

• There's a very nice Farmer's market on Fridays, from November through April. Visit this link for more info: http://www.sayulitalife.com/markets.

Eating Out

dining-out.jpg

• Street food is a great way to experience Mexican food. Many taco stands offer the best food for its price. A good way to see if the food is good is to check if many people are eating there. If it's popular, it's for a reason.

• Sayulita has many fantastic restaurants. Consult www.sayulitalife.com for more information.

• Our personal favorites:

               • Pizza Venezia: Great pizza. You can bring your own beer, or wine.
               • Sayulita Café: Great Mexican specialties.
               • Naty's Kitchen: Excellent taco's just around the corner.
               • Purillo's: Best Fish Taco's you've ever had.
               • El Ivan: Street Taco's for a late night craving.
               • La Isla Beach Club: The best place on the beach, for food and for drinks.
               • Don Pedro's: Fine Dining.
               • Don Juan’s: Original Mexican dishes, for when you’ve had enough tacos. Off the beaten track.

Telephone Calls

When using your own cell phone, assuming it's not a Mexican cell phone number, keep in mind that you will be charged international rates for calls and text messages. We recommend you turn off roaming.

Calls within Mexico (AC: Area Code, the first three digits of most lines): If you are calling Sayulita, the area code (AC) is 329.

Money Exchange and ATM Machines

• Sayulita has several different ATM machines in town. Remember the ATM machines use the symbol $ for pesos so when you see $2000 that is not dollars but pesos.

• Also around the plaza there are Casas de Cambios, where you can exchange dollars for pesos, although the rate you get will not be very good. Most of the local restaurants and shops accept dollars, but not at the best rate of exchange.

• The best ATMs are inside stores, like at the small market called Alas Blancas, a block off the plaza towards the beach.

Medical Emergencies and Health Care

• There is a 24 hour emergency clinic in Sayulita with an English speaking doctor. It is located on Calle Revolucion one half block south of the plaza. His numbers are 322-779-0577 and 329-291-3947.

• Sayulita has a health clinic when you first enter the village on the main road to your left. It is a gray and blue colored building, which says SALUD on the front. The hours are flexible so it is best to get there in the mornings. If it is a major emergency, get to one of the hospitals in Puerto Vallarta. DO NOT GO TO THE SAN PANCHO HOSPITAL for medical treatment.

• We have several good pharmacies here in Sayulita for help with stomach illness or other non-emergency type help.

• Puerto Vallarta has several excellent options for treatment, Amerimed just past the airport on the left and San Javier Hospital just past Sam's and Wal-Mart on the left.

Transportation

• Taxi service is readily available. Generally the taxis can be found around the plaza or near the bus stops at the entrance to town. The smaller ones are the most reasonable. Taxi Sayulita: Augustine (329) 291-3059, Elias (329) 291-3252, Plaza (329) 291-2050, Pedro 01 (311) 258-4017.

For airport pick up and drop off as well as Golf Cart Rentals we recommend Amanecer:

Email: sayulitasuburban@gmail.com
Phone: 322.152.4655 or 322.131.2997

• Car rentals are available by the bridge in town. They are more expensive in Sayulita. We recommend Gecko car rental in Bucerias. To call, USA: 011-52-329-298-0339, From Mexico: 01-329-298-0339, Local: 298-0339

• The bus runs between Sayulita and Puerto Vallarta about once every 20 minutes leaving from the entrance to the main boulevard, Calle Revolucion, as you come into town (next to the Centro de Salud, the medical clinic). It stops in Bucerias, Mega Mart, Mezcales, at the airport, Wal-Mart and Sam's Club and the furthest south is the Coppel, a couple blocks before the Malecon. It does not run much past 8pm so please check if you plan to take it into the city and return the same day.

Surfing

Sayulita is renowned for surfing and is a great place to learn to surf. There are many surf shops offering surf lessons. We recommend Lunazul. They're highly respected and are just around the corner from Dos Amigos, where Calle Marlin meets the beach.

Other Activities

Fishing, day trips, Puerto Vallarta, hot springs, zip line, special parties, horseback riding, etc. Sayulita has it all. Chica Locca and Mi Chaparrita are good companies to contact.

There are many Yoga studios to choose from in Sayulita. Paraiso Yoga is our favorite:

Time Zone

Sayulita is on the same time zone as Puerto Vallarta. If you go north past Lo de Marcos the time changes behind an hour.

If there is anything else that you need during your stay, please don’t hesitate to ask -- Sophie and Ruben.
